Is YouTube becoming more Popular than television?

Over the last few years YouTube has become a multi billion social platform since partnering with the biggest search engine Google, this now means that it is one of the most valuable social media platforms.

YouTube has become increasingly popular with a younger generation who have grown up with the internet, although it is not strictly this generation who are involved because audience and creators alike come from a vast age range.

According to a source as google YouTube has over one billion active accounts each month on it’s channel, however you do not need channel to be able to watch videos on the website.

Video’s on YouTube can also receives millions of views and this can often rival the the views received by some of the most popular programmes on television.

Unlike television YouTube videos can be watched all across the world meaning that they have a larger potential audience to begin with which helps with the growth of people channels.

YouTube is also becoming increasingly popular compared to the television because there is no set schedule for when you have to watch a video, the viewer can choose when to watch the content provided.

YouTube has a larger range of content which had the potential to appeal to a larger audience, one viewer Louis Evans of Bellwood road, Birmingham said he preferred this to television because he could "I can search for things that interest me instead of watching what's on TV"

YouTube has so many more benefits compared to Television which is why is becoming increasingly popular, and it only continues to grow where as the viewership for television does not expand as rapidly as that of YouTube.

YouTube now has it's own ‘celebrities’ like the television industry. Popular British Vlogger Zoella has nearly 14 million subscribers between her 'main' beauty channel and her vlog channel although her video's only reach about two million views, she has also appeared on multiple television programmes including loose women and The Great British Bake Off.

The most subscribed channel is for gaming and belongs the gamer under the name of PewDiePie who has over 41 million subscribers to his channel.

These YouTube ‘celebrities’ seem more accessible compared to ones on TV because you can comment underneath their video and sometimes you will receive a reply and it makes the consumer feel like they included because of the two communication compared to televisions one way communication.
